FUE Hair Transplant
FUE Hair Transplant
ANew Aesthetic Medical Center has been at the forefront of the most innovative and cutting edge hair transplant technology in the world. Automated Follicular Unit Extract (FUE) with the Neograft System allows Dr. Vicky Hagstrom the control and precision to remove individual hair follicles from the back and sides of the head and transplant them in a natural hair growth pattern in the thinning or bare areas on top and front.
The most comfortable, efficient hair transplant procedure in the world
By efficiently removing just a small bit of skin with a healthy follicle, no visible or painful scar is left behind. The healthy graft is transplanted where needed in very small incisions yielding a very natural hair restoration result.
The small wounds at the donor site on the back of the scalp are virtually painless and heal very quickly. Your barber or hair stylist will easily be able to disguise the donor area and you will be back to your normal activities in a matter of days.
FUE vs. FUT
Prior to the advancement of FUE, the most popular hair transplant technology has been Follicular Unit Transplant. FUT requires a section of the scalp to be removed from the back of the head. The skin is then trimmed into individual follicles under a microscope, which are then transplanted to the top and crown of the head. This has been a proven and effective means of hair transplant for years. However, when compared to FUE it has several drawbacks.
FUE vs. FUT
- FUT requires a rather large incision to remove a portion of the scalp. This incision is then stitched back together and takes several weeks to heal, is very uncomfortable, and it may take several weeks to return to a comfortable, normal lifestyle.
- Due to the invasive nature of FUT, the number of procedures available to the patient over a life time are generally limited, which may not provide the desired end results
- FUT techniques yield a very finite number of grafts which can be harvested and transplanted in a single visit due to the very nature of the procedure, as well as the recovery time.
- FUE is virtually pain free and very little time is needed for healing and returning to your daily activities.
- FUE allows individual follicles to be removed from a larger donor area on the sides and back of the head which is virtually unnoticeable and gives the patient much more flexibility in getting the desired results – that is a greater amount of donor hair to fill in the bald or thin areas.
- FUE technique can yield more than 2,500 grafts in a single visit and allows the patient to return for additional grafting procedures within a much shorter time frame since the healing time of the donor area is so much shorter compared to FUT.
ANEW uses a revolutionary device, the NeoGraft system, that allows Dr. Vicky and her staff to automate FUE (follicular unit extraction), in which the hair follicles from the donor area on the back and sides of the scalp are removed individually and efficiently. The grafts are then transplanted in a natural pattern in the areas of loss, in a gentle and pain-free, scar-free process. What this means is your hair transplant procedure is performed in a safe and efficient manner with the utmost accuracy and precision providing you with a completely natural appear-ance with less pain and less downtime as compared to older hair transplant techniques.
Questions and Answers
Below you’ll find several of the questions we field regularly. You’ll find them helpful. However, if you have any other questions we urge you to call us and let us help you. We’re here to help you make the right decision for you, in order to achieve your personal hair restoration goals.
Q. How soon will I see results?
The science behind grafting is quite simple. Hair follicles are taken from the hair at the back of the head that is genetically programmed to continue to grow. The follicles that hold your transplanted hair are living tissues that grow cyclically. Like normal hair growth, transplantation is an ongoing process that requires a commitment of time. Once the hair follicle has been implanted into the balding area, the grafted hair will stay in place for about 2-3 weeks before shedding. After shedding, the new growth will begin in 3-4 months. This is normal and an important part of the new hair growth process. After that time period, the hair will continue to grow normally; your result will look healthy and natural.
Q. How long will it last?
Transplanted hair follicles will go through a temporary dormant phase in their new location on the scalp. Start-ing about 3 months after transplantation, the follicles will begin to grow hair in a gradual, natural progression, following normal growth cycles. These follicles are not vulnerable to the DHT influence, therefore, will grow hair for the patient’s lifetime.
Q. What results can I expect?
Unlike the old fashioned “plug grafting” technique that often produces an altered texture or unnatural straight lines (corn row) of hair appearance, FUE technique has dramatically improved the results of hair restoration surgery. Grafting sessions are designed to replace the lost hair, refine the thinning hairline, and provide a healthy and natural appearance. One of the main benefits of the FUE procedure over other pro-cedures is the ability to transplant more hair in a single session; this means more hair growing in a short period of time!
Q. Should I have any concerns?
FUE Hair transplant surgery is considered a minor office-based procedure. There are rarely any complica-tions and those that may occur can easily be dealt with by your doctor.
Q. How can I maximize my hair restoration results?
Many men start to develop male pattern baldness in early adulthood, or it may not occur until midlife, at approximately 40-45 years of age. Women may reach the age of 40-60 before balding patterns manifest. Hair loss does not stop after a transplant; for most people, a program of continuing maintenance with laser therapy and hair growth products, and possible further sessions may be required to minimize or correct ongoing hair loss. Progressive hair loss or the desire for increased density may require more transplants, but before any procedure begins a patient’s balding pattern is analyzed and a customized plan developed.
Q. How is FUE with Neograft performed?
FUE Hair transplantation is a minimally invasive process in which hair is taken from the back of the head and replaced in areas where hair loss has occurred. The NeoGraft device uses a special technology that is able to quickly and painlessly remove the hair follicles from the back of the head and then implant them to balding areas. NeoGraft uses a gentle rotation to cut and remove the graft smoothly, so there is no pulling or twisting which can risk damaging the graft. Because the NeoGraft FUE transplant is faster than other out-of-date methods, the grafts can be re-implanted sooner which keeps them more robust and increases the success of the grafting process.
Q. How do I know if I am a candidate?
Candidates for hair restoration surgery are individuals with hair loss that have sufficient donor hair on the back and sides of the scalp to transplant into the frontal balding areas. At the initial complimentary con-sultation, Dr. Vicky will assess the amount of coverage needed to give you the appearance you desire, as well as the adequacy of the donor hair supply. Patients at all stages of hair loss have achieved excellent results by following Dr. Vicky’s recommended treatment plan.
FUE technique is especially useful for restoring unique hair loss areas, such as scars on the scalp (caused by accidental wounds or previous surgical procedures) and eyebrow restoration (most commonly caused by overplucking or waxing, but can also be genetic) or for cosmetic improvement in any eyebrow shape.
